Well… with a graduate scheme you will receive relevant training that will allow you to settle into an organisation quickly by gaining first hand industry experience either working in a specific role with an established department, or across a range of different departments rotating through them. Graduate schemes provide you with holistic organisational knowledge putting you in a great position to potentially move into junior management roles once the scheme is complete..
Essentially graduate schemes are graduate jobs with an included training programme, offering more of a structured experience combining working and training. Often graduate schemes are offered by larger employers, although very good programmes can be found across different types of organisations varying in both their size and sector. Usually a graduate programme will last 1-2 years and sometimes even longer. The size of the organisation often determines the number of graduate schemes ran in a year. Generally there is only one scheme ran per year in an individual department but an organisation may run many schemes throughout the business simultaneously.
The majority of graduate jobs and schemes will require the applicant to hold a degree, although some exceptions may be made for existing employees who have worked their way up through the ranks. Most traditional professions however, will expect you to be a university graduate.
