Newcastle Business School Event

Sharing the secret of success

GRADVERT MD Michaela Reaney has been imparting her knowledge on the next generation of entrepreneurs, at an event that connected industry experts with students.

On Wednesday, March 29, Michaela was one of a dozen businesspeople who took part in ‘Making it in the City’, an alumni employability event held at Newcastle University’s London campus.

The evening of insights focused on career advice for alumni and recent graduates from Newcastle Business School, with the focus on providing them with a platform to network and discuss career advice with industry professionals and fellow graduates.

The event featured a panel discussion, followed by an open Q&A and the networking aspect of the day provided an opportunity for the university’s alumni to meet some of the biggest names in business.

Michaela said: “I was really encouraged by the graduates and alumni I met at the Making it in the City event. It’s really important for people to get experience in networking at events like this and for them to gain valuable insights from professionals across a range of industries.

“These are uncertain times and it’s a fiercely competitive job market. You need to be able to demonstrate what you can do and stand out from other graduates.

“As a former graduate myself, I know what it’s like and the job market is tough. It’s a privilege to be invited to events like this and to be able to share my knowledge and experience.”

Michaela was joined by other professionals from global brands including PwC and Mothercare.

Sitting on the panel were Nick Perry, talent acquisition manager at Nike UK & Ireland; Scott Farnetti, vice president investment manager at Barclays Wealth; Ben Chesters, managing director at Investment Publicis Media Exchange; and Claire Yates, marketing and communications consultant at Global Brand.

The panel’s discussion centred around what it takes to have a successful career in London and provided advice for those looking to progress in their career, or change it altogether.

Michaela was on hand to share her expert knowledge and experience, providing hints and tips for alumni in search of information to develop their careers.
