Tafrey Jamu

“Tafrey has carried out 20 successful individual projects throughout his time”

Tafrey Jamu began as a Graduate Business Analyst with Cambridge Weight Plan. Now at the age of 26, Tafrey has been kept as a valued member of the team and now works full time as the company’s Business Analyst. His accomplishments have earned him a spot as one of our Gradstars!

Tafrey attended Bristol University in which he carried out a master’s degree in physics. As is the case with many students, Tafrey didn’t have a career choice in mind at university. However, he was aware of his skill set which surrounded IT and analytics and knew that he wanted a career that encompassed these traits.

His skill set developed through prior roles such as a technician in which he used software to develop systems. Tafrey also believes modules such as ‘quantum information’ at university has expanded his skill set as they included mathematical components.

Having previously applied for a position through Gradvert, Tafrey was on our radar. Subsequently, when the role with Cambridge Weight Plan emerged our recruitment team contacted and urged him to apply. Tafrey was successful and his role as a business analyst allows him to fully utilise his skill set.

There’s currently only 3 members of the IT department at Cambridge Weight Plan and Tafrey has carried out 20 successful individual projects throughout his time. Some of his personal and acknowledged successes include:

  • Every 6 months has had a successful management review.
  • Integrated a bespoke process into IFS ERP software to empower users and therefore made systems more efficient as not having to use an external source.
  • Has dedicated his own personal time to learn code.
  • Attended project management courses.
  • Conducts a quarterly overview meeting with IFS Core User Group.
  • Carries out one-to-one sessions to train users.

When asked Tafrey explained that the skills he feels he’s expanded on the most are analytics, implementation, people and the ability to analyse data. In the future, this means he can apply and consider moving up in sectors such as:

  • Data scientist
  • Software Engineering
  • Java Developer
  • Software Developer
  • Database Administrator

Following his successes, we asked Tafrey what advice he would give to upcoming and recent graduates. His response was experience and perseverance! Build your CV up with work experience and remember to persevere and not give up your job hunt as things won’t happen overnight.

Additionally, one thing Tafrey admires most about Cambridge Weight Plan is how they allowed him to grow and find himself within the company. This method has added to his success and growth and has rightfully earned his place as one of our Gradstars.
